english.aljazeera.net Follow us on Twitter: twitter.com Follow us on Facebook: facebook.com Follow us on Tumblr: ajfaultlines.tumblr.com Obesity in America has reached a crisis point. Two out of every three Americans are overweight, one out of every three is obese. One in three are expected to have diabetes by 2050. Minorities have been even more profoundly affected. African-Americans have a 50 per cent higher prevalence of obesity and Hispanics 25 per cent higher when compared with whites. How did the situation get so out of hand? On this week’s episode of Fault Lines, Josh Rushing explores the world of cheap food for Americans living at the margins. What opportunities do people have to eat healthy? Who is responsible for food deserts and processed food in American schools? Fault Lines finds food revolutions taking place and speaks with the people that are fighting back.

Obesity is entirely caused by food intake and activity. There is no fat gene. People who are obese actually have a HIGHER resting metabolic rate than normal people, the notion that your personal metabolism is to blame for your fat ass is a lie. Diet is the key. Gastric bypass, lap bands, surgery like that is just a diet enforced by surgery, to make it impossible to overeat. Do not allow yourself to become like this.

“IT IS ALMOST A CERTAINTY THAT I WILL DIE BECAUSE OF MY WEIGHT”
Geeessss! If only there was a way to prevent that from happening. **SARCASM**
Hormonal conditions…lol. We all know people who are fat are only fat because they eat too much pies and cakes and are lazy/lacking exercise.
FATASSES!
@seamonyet It’s quite possible for you to lose weight through diet and exercise alone despite genetic factors.Though they certainly do play a role in excess weight, lifestyle choices play a much greater role in determining your weight. The genetic factor only means that you will have to be extra healthy and manage your lifestyle more carefully.If you are blaming your excess weight on genetic factors alone and not examining lifestyle choices, surgery will be only a temporary fix at best goodluck!
lets leave him in a deserted island with vegtables ,water , and training exercises , this will solve the problem
everyone in my family is over weight. that’s when i know diet will never work for me and I had to do something before it will affect my health eventually. my friend had surgery done by dr david of southcoastlapband in california 8 months ago. she had lost almost 90 lbs so far. i am seriously considering going for the procedure
im watching this because today is food day
please thumbs up if you agree with me that america is a real hell for the rest of the world
@abbeyandhaleykay: I agree—it’s hard to lose weight, whether it’s 50 pounds or 300 hundred. I’ve been in the situation before where I gained a significant amount of weight and felt terrible all the time. Something has to click in your brain to tell you, “I’m not going to be like this anymore.”
@EpicUberFail Fuckin Smart!!!
@abbeyandhaleykay It was his choice to get obese. It wasn’t just one day he was obese, he slowly became that. How come it’s fine to be against smoking, yet it’s unacceptable to be against obesity? Smoking kills you. As does obesity. Stop smoking, you’re on the right track. Eat less, start exercising and you’re on the right track.
hormonal condition my ass
@abbeyandhaleykay Oh please, stop being such a pussy. Human beings have been dealing with depression and anxiety forever. Why is it only now that obesity is such a problem? Some people are just lazy fat asses who choose not to stop going to Mcdonalds.
MEANWHILE IN AFRICA…
EAT A FUCKING CARROT
fat motherfucker
@Q8379 lol deserves a like?
@TheEquivalentXchange agreement… on YouTube? Who knew this could be possible…
@Q8379 alright I think we’ve come to an agreement
@TheEquivalentXchange But drug addicts, alcoholics, smokers and idiots are treated with the disrespect they deserve, while fat people aren’t and this is why I single them out. There even are “fat acceptance” groups that try to promote not caring. Sure, there are people who can’t help it due to genetic problems, and my heart goes out to those poor souls but those are a very slim minority. 95% of obese people cannot hide behind that excuse. Healthier americans make a happier and productive country
@Q8379 I do understand and I agree what you have to say. However I find it kinda insulting that you just only single out obese people. Some individuals are born with some complications, no matter how much they control their own diet and lifestyle. But what about drug addicts, drinkers, or just darn stupid people who get hurt for fun. Or I guess they aren’t part of it. Oh btw, those tax dollars earned go towards the general public, no matter what they have or what they’ve done.
Fat people are a disgrace to society. They selfishly take up extra space and resources and make no effort to control their poor lifestyle. They eat up our tax dollars with fully preventable problems, and complain afterwards that society disrespect them. Jack Lalanne had it right when he said that physical culture and nutrition is the salvation of America : healthy individuals are happier and more productive, and overall better citizens who don’t choke the healthcare system with grease.
@TheEquivalentXchange Most people take the time to have a sensible lifestyle and that’s why they are not fat. Obese people are the insulting ones : they are the biggest burden on the healthcare system, they take away the hard earned tax dollars of non-lazy people, they take up extra space and extra resources. People with real diseases go without treatment because fatties take up all the time and attention. And then fatties have the nerve to complain. You deserve only contempt.
@abbeyandhaleykay Even with diseases like diabetes, you can’t reach this amount of body fat without poor lifestyle choices. I’m tired of seeing obese people blame other things or people for their extra pounds. They are the biggest burden on the healthcare system, a burden that could be fully preventable if they just put their minds to losing weight. Why should hardworking Americans and children with real diseases see their money go to lazy people with no respect for others?
